A Folio Worth Falling For: Burgundy Velvet Wedding Invitations
There's something about a folio invitation that a flat card simply can't match — the way it sits closed for a moment, velvet and weighty in your hands, before opening like a small book to reveal what's inside. The Regina, in deep burgundy velvet with a foil-pressed monogram, is one of those suites that guests remember long after the wedding day. Here's a closer look at what makes it special, and why a folio might be the right choice for your invitations.
What Makes a Folio Different
The word folio comes from the Latin folium, meaning leaf — and that's exactly the experience it's designed to create. Rather than sliding a card out of an envelope, your guests open a thick velvet cover and turn back its front panel as though opening the first page of a book. On the front, a foil-pressed monogram or design sets the tone before anything else is even seen.
Inside, the main invitation — foil-pressed onto clear acrylic or designer cardboard — sits on one side, while a shaped velvet pocket on the other holds everything else: directions, accommodation details, an RSVP card. It's a format that turns "here are the details of our wedding" into something closer to a keepsake.
The Regina, in Burgundy
The Regina is our hardcover velvet folio, and in deep burgundy it makes a particularly striking first impression — rich, warm, and instantly recognisable as something special. The cover is personalised with the names of the couple and the wedding date, foil-pressed in gleaming gold, so the very first thing your guests see is a detail made just for you.
20 Velvet Colours to Choose From
Our folio covers are made from French velvet stretched over hardboard, with a distinctive marbled texture that catches the light differently from a flat fabric. While the Regina is shown here in burgundy, every folio can be made in any of our 20 velvet colours — from deep Burgundy and Forest Green to soft Blush, Dusty Pink, and White. Colours 17–20 (Copper, Caviar, Soft Ochre, and Mist) are crafted from suede leather rather than velvet, offering a distinctive textured finish.

Acrylic or Cardboard — Your Choice
Once the folio opens, the main invitation sits on the right-hand side, and you have a choice of two finishes for it. The first is 2mm clear acrylic, foil-pressed with your wording — it gives a sleek, almost weightless look, with the gold or silver foil seeming to float against the velvet beneath it. It's a popular choice for couples who want their suite to feel modern alongside the more traditional velvet cover.
The second option is designer cardboard, also foil-pressed, which leans into a more classic, old-world feel — closer to the texture and warmth of a printed invitation. Both finishes are available with our full range of foil colours: gold, silver, copper, and rose gold, with further options available on request.
Everything in Its Place
A Pocket for the Details
On the left-hand side of the Regina, a shaped velvet pocket holds up to five additional inserts — so directions, accommodation information, and anything else your guests need can travel alongside the invitation itself, rather than as a separate loose card. It keeps the whole suite feeling considered, right down to the smallest detail.
RSVPs, Taken Care Of
An RSVP card slips neatly into the velvet pocket alongside your other inserts, so guests have everything they need to reply in hand from the moment they open the folio — no separate envelope to misplace, no second piece of post to keep track of.
A Velvet Mini-Book
For couples with more to share than an RSVP card alone, a velvet mini-book is available as an optional add-on. Crafted from the same velvet as the folio cover, with a blind-embossed front reading "INFORMATION — RSVP," it gives you a few extra pages for a full itinerary, accommodation list, or anything else your guests might need to know. The standard page count is three, expandable up to seven.
The Regina is available across our full velvet palette and can be made to a custom size if your design calls for it. Every suite is completed with a dense card envelope, so the finished invitation arrives ready to send.
