When the Venue Becomes the Invitation
Most wedding invitations describe a venue in a single line of type. A venue invitation does something different — it puts the building itself, hand-illustrated and pressed in gold foil, on the very first page a guest sees. For a wedding at the Corinthia London, that's exactly what the Corinthia XL is designed to do.
What is a venue wedding invitation? A venue wedding invitation is a stationery design built around a custom illustration of the couple's wedding location — typically foil pressed or printed directly onto the card, so the venue itself becomes part of the artwork rather than just a line of address text.
The Corinthia London, in gold foil
The Corinthia XL is named for its scale: at 215 × 150mm, it's one of the largest formats in our collection, and the size matters. A building as architecturally detailed as the Corinthia London needs room to be illustrated properly — every window, cornice and rooftop line rendered in gold foil rather than compressed into a small corner motif.
The illustration sits beneath a gatefold vellum jacket, tied with gold string and finished with a gold wax seal, so the venue is the first thing a guest sees before the card is even opened. Beneath the vellum, the wording itself is foil pressed directly onto 600gsm white luxury card stock — a density that gives the gold a crisp, raised finish guests can feel as well as see.
Why couples choose the Corinthia London
Where is the Corinthia London? The Corinthia London is a five-star hotel on Whitehall Place in Westminster, overlooking the River Thames and within walking distance of the London Eye and Westminster Abbey.
The hotel first opened its doors in 1885 as the Hotel Metropole, and its transformation into the Corinthia London preserved that sense of history while adding the polish of a contemporary luxury address. It has since become one of the capital's most sought-after wedding venues, with couples drawn to two very different spaces under one roof: the grandeur of the Ballroom for a traditional, formal celebration, and the light-filled Crystal Moon Lounge for something more intimate.
It's a setting with enough presence that an invitation referencing it in passing wouldn't do it justice — which is the reasoning behind the Corinthia XL's scale and illustration in the first place.

The paper behind the gold foil
What card stock is used for the Corinthia XL? The Corinthia XL is foil pressed onto 600gsm luxe 100% cotton card stock — a heavyweight, fibrous paper chosen for how cleanly it holds gold foil detail at scale.
Cotton card stock behaves differently to standard paper under foil. Its soft, fibrous surface takes the gold with exceptional clarity, and at 600gsm the weight is immediately noticeable in hand. Look closely at the double foil pressed border and you can see the cotton fibres themselves beneath the gold — a texture that only reveals itself up close, and one that's difficult to replicate on a thinner card.
The envelopes are sourced from a renowned European paper house and finished to match — each back flap pressed with the couple's own gold foil crest, so the craftsmanship carries through from the invitation itself to the very first thing a guest holds in their hands.
